Glasson Golf Club

Club of the Month Archive

Glasson Golf Hotel & Country Club provides a tranquil, serene experience in the heart of Ireland.

This is a family hotel with a difference; it is luxurious, friendly, beautifully situated and is host to one of the finest parkland courses in Ireland.

Glasson Golf Club

The golf course is truly a sight to behold, it runs from the old family home down to the shores of Lough Ree and provides breathtaking views over the lake and a golfing challenge that will make you want to come back again and again.

Glasson

Glasson has justifiably earned an international reputation as one of the most challenging and scenic in Ireland. Designed by Ryder Cup star, Christy O’Connor Jnr. (one of Irelands greatest golfers)., it has gone from strength to strength, and has even awakened the senses in the upper echelons of the European Tour as Glasson has been host to the Challenge of Ireland European Challenge Tour Event in 2007 and again in 2008.

The course starts out with steady Par 4, sloping from right to left and requiring accuracy from the tee rather than distance.

The course then meanders through the countryside and provides some very interesting challenges, whilst offering relaxation as it is hard to get stressed in such a tranquil environment.

As the owners come from farming stock you will be pleasantly surprised when you eat in the restaurant or bar after your game. The food is top class and the quantities will either make you want to snooze or encourage you to play another 18 holes!

Glasson Golf 14th Hole

The holes that stand out are the Par 4 dog leg 8th hole, which offers a very tricky downhill shot to the green after a pinpoint drive. The Par 5 10th Hole is a lovely sweeping hole that offers both opportunity and punishment combined. the stunning downhill 14th Par 5 is truly a fabulous golf hole, where you must drive through the trees, downhill to set yourself up for a shot at the green, it is a true risk and reward style hole. The Par 3 15th carries 130 yards of Lough Rea to a island style green.

One interesting way of accessing Glasson is to arrive by boat at Glasson Golf Hotels private jetty in Killinure harbour or if arriving by car be sure to take a trip out on the lake.

I have heard it said that Glasson is half way between Dublin and Galway but I would say that once you get to Glasson there is no need to continue your journey.

It is truly a world class, lovely, family run resort that is waiting for your visit.
