Druid's Glen
Club of the Month ArchiveDruids Glen is a blend of the most stunning and imaginative golf holes within the confines of the unique landscape in the Garden of Ireland...
If you then add the most careful manicuring of the course and indeed the mature woodland, plants and shrubs that are the icing on the cake for this masterpiece of Irish Golf.

The Druids Glen Golf Club can be found in County Wicklow, the Garden of Ireland, and is itself a beautiful tended garden that would attract interest from nature lovers and ecologists even if there was not a world class golf course there to enjoy.
A parkland course but overlooking the Irish Sea, 30 miles from Dublin City Centre, Druids Glen is a course that should be played in all seasons:

In spring it shows so much promise of what is to come
To play on a hazy summer's day is pure contentment
To play in autumn is to see the course in its full glory & indeed you would think that you had been transported to New England for the day
To play in winter time, you can appreciate the course for what it is - pure class.

Host Venue to the Irish Open from 1996 - 1999 and included Colin Montgomery & Sergio Garcia among the victors, indeed it was Sergio's first tour win in 1999.
It hosted the Seve Trophy in 2002 and has won the European Golf Club of the year in 2000, the European Golf Resort of the Year in 2005 and indeed the Greengolfball, Golf Club of the Month November 2008!
The course is littered with many memorable and fantastic golf holes but the three most memorable come on the back 9, starting with the Par 3 12th Hole, short, over water but the backdrop is amazing and worthy of a photo stop from a few different angles.
This is followed by the Par 4 13th hole which I personally believe has to be one of the most imaginative, strongest par 4's in the world. To play from a height to a limited landing zone, requiring an accurate long drive with a fade to have any chance of reaching the green which is protected by a river along the fairway which turns into a lake before the green - Play it and you will understand!

The finishing hole in any golf course should be memorable and should be capable of producing shocks. The 18th at Druids Glen is a very strong finishing hole that both required a big drive and accuracy to a well protected green. If Eamonn Darcy in his notes suggests a layup and to trust your wedge, its probably a good idea!

Play Druids Glen, you simply must…
