Westport Golf Club is a golfing oasis in the colourful town of Westport on the West coast of Ireland. The setting is spectacular and Croagh Patrick, Ireland's holy mountain, seems to follow you everywhere on the course.
The 18-hole championship course was designed by Fred Hawtree, designer of the new course at St. Andrews. It was built on part of the Westport House Estate. On first viewing of the site, Hawtree commented, 'the nature of the terrain, part inland and part seaside, the panorama which it commands and its considerable golfing virtues make it uniquely attractive and memorable.'
Lush, rolling hills vary from gentle inclines to mini mountains to provide an outstanding championship test. There is a range of long and short par 3s and 4s, and the 12th and 15th in particular call for exceptional skills.
