Situated on an island in the Waterford Estuary, Ireland's only true island golf course surrounded by the River Suir and accessed by private ferry.
Designed by Des Smyth, Waterford Castle Golf Club sits on a 320-acre island enclosed by water. The course runs 6814 yards and has four water features on the second, third, fourth and sixteenth holes. There is even a Swilken bridge on the third hole.
Two of the more challenging holes are the par 4's at nine and twelve. Index one comes at the ninth, a 414-yard uphill, dog leg right. Two very good shots required here to get up in two.
The twelfth is 456 yards and is a fine test of accuracy and distance. The views from the course are superb and the luxurious Waterford Castle Hotel equally spectacular.
