Bamburgh Castle Golf Club

Bamburgh Castle Golf Club occupies a spectacular position on the Northumberland coast, with views towards Bamburgh Castle, the Farne Islands, Lindisfarne and the Cheviot Hills. Founded in 1904 by Lord Armstrong, the course was laid out by George Rochester in a natural style that makes excellent use of the surrounding coastal landscape.

The relatively short layout is framed by gorse, heather, whinstone and natural sandy ground, while the opening holes provide an unusual sequence of back-to-back par threes followed by two par fives. The course’s elevation and coastal setting create a mixture of demanding lies and changing wind conditions. With its dramatic views and intimate scale, Bamburgh offers a particularly distinctive example of traditional northern links golf.
