Cleveland Golf Club

Cleveland Golf Club is situated at Coatham on the North Yorkshire coast, occupying a broad stretch of traditional linksland beside the North Sea. Founded in 1887, it is the oldest golf course in Yorkshire and has developed through the influence of several architects, most notably Old Tom Morris, Harry Colt and Donald Steel.

The course combines firm coastal ground with natural dunes, open fairways and strategically placed hazards. Its exposed position allows the wind to influence both distance and direction, while the relatively open landscape rewards golfers who can control trajectory and use the ground effectively. Three new holes were added by Donald Steel in 2000, helping to complete a layout that retains a strong connection to its long golfing history.
