Hayling Golf Club

Hayling Golf Club occupies a natural stretch of linksland on Hayling Island, looking across the Solent towards the Isle of Wight and Langstone Harbour. Founded in 1883 by the Sandeman family, the course began as a nine-hole layout before being extended to 18 holes and subsequently shaped by several of the leading architects of the early twentieth century.

J.H. Taylor, Harry Colt and Tom Simpson all contributed to the course, with Simpson’s work in the 1930s and after the Second World War leaving a particularly strong influence on the present layout. The course moves through dunes, heather and gorse, with firm fairways and natural undulations encouraging traditional links play. Coastal winds can make the long par fives and exposed approaches particularly demanding, while the surrounding wildlife and open views reinforce its natural seaside character.
