Nefyn & District Golf Club

Nefyn & District occupies one of the most spectacular stretches of coastline in Wales, on the Llŷn Peninsula where the land narrows towards Porthdinllaen and the Irish Sea. Golf began here in 1907 following a meeting at the Tŷ Coch pub on the beach, and what started as a nine-hole course has developed into an unusual 27-hole layout. J.H. Taylor and James Braid both contributed to its development during the 1920s and 1930s.

The defining feature is the famous nine-hole “Point”, which runs along a narrow finger of land towards Porthdinllaen. Fairways, tees and greens sit close to steep coastal edges, with the sea visible from virtually every part of the layout. The Point is especially exposed to the prevailing westerly wind, while the modern Championship 18 combines the clifftop Yellow nine with the more inland Red nine. The result is a course where risk and reward are unusually visible: aggressive lines can produce spectacular rewards, but the consequences of a misplaced shot can be immediate.
