Royal Liverpool Golf Club

Royal Liverpool, commonly known as Hoylake, occupies a broad expanse of linksland beside the Dee Estuary on the Wirral Peninsula. Founded in 1869, it is one of England’s oldest golf clubs and has developed through the work of several architects, including George Morris and Harry Colt, with later modifications continuing to refine the layout.

The course is characterised by firm, open fairways, natural dunes and subtle changes in elevation, with the wind playing a particularly important role as the routing moves back and forth across the peninsula. Strategic positioning is crucial, as the best angles into the greens can change dramatically depending on the direction of the breeze. Its long association with The Open and other major championships gives Hoylake a strong sense of history, while the exposed coastal setting keeps every round unpredictable.
