Royal West Norfolk Golf Club

Royal West Norfolk, commonly known as Brancaster, occupies an exceptional stretch of linksland on the North Norfolk coast, squeezed between the North Sea and the Brancaster marshes. Founded in 1892, the course is remarkably natural, with low dunes, firm running fairways and exposed greens shaped as much by the coastal wind as by the ground itself. Its isolation and tidal setting give it a character quite unlike the more formal championship links further along the English coast.

The course is an engaging test of judgement rather than simply length. The wind changes the character of the holes throughout the round, while the natural contours and distinctive sleeper-faced bunkers demand imagination around the greens. The tidal influence is particularly unusual, with the marsh and sea coming close to the course on several holes. The combination of setting, history and natural design makes Brancaster one of the most distinctive links experiences in England.
