Sheringham Golf Club

Sheringham Golf Club occupies a spectacular position on the North Norfolk coast, with the course following the clifftops above the North Sea and commanding wide views across the coastline. Founded in 1891, the original nine holes were laid out by Tom Dunn before the course was extended to 18 holes in 1898. The setting gives Sheringham a distinctive character, with firm ground, coastal wind and dramatic changes in elevation combining to create a very different experience from the flatter links of Norfolk.

The course is notable for its mixture of traditional links characteristics and clifftop golf. Gorse, undulating fairways and well-defended greens place a premium on accuracy, while the exposed holes can change considerably depending on the wind. Sheringham also has a fascinating history, having hosted the English Women's Championship in 1920, when Joyce Wethered won the title; the 17th hole is still known as “What Train” after the passing railway failed to distract Wethered during her winning putt.
