Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club

Southport & Ainsdale Golf Club lies within the dunes of the Lancashire coast, combining traditional linksland with areas of heathland character. Founded in 1906, the course was originally developed by George Lowe before James Braid reshaped the layout in the early twentieth century, creating much of the character seen today.

The natural movement of the dunes provides elevated tees, rolling fairways and a series of well-positioned hazards, while the exposed setting ensures that wind remains a constant consideration. The famous 16th, known as “Gumbleys”, is one of several holes where the natural contours and bunkering have a particularly strong influence on play. Having hosted two Ryder Cups, the course combines a rich competitive history with the more intimate character of a traditional English links.
