The Castle Course occupies high ground above St Andrews Bay, offering panoramic views of the coastline and historic town. Its sweeping fairways, pronounced slopes, deep bunkers and large sculpted greens create a bold modern layout with a character unlike the older courses at St Andrews.

The elevated setting leaves much of the course open to the wind, adding complexity to its demanding green complexes and approach angles. The closing sequence is a particular highlight, led by the par-three 17th played across a rocky inlet.
