The Berkshire Golf Club

The Berkshire Golf Club lies among mature pine woodland and open heathland near Ascot, with two courses — the Red and Blue — occupying gently undulating sandy ground. Founded in 1928, both layouts were designed by Herbert Fowler and make extensive use of the natural contours, heather and woodland of the site.

The Red and Blue courses are characterised by firm fairways, carefully positioned bunkers and a series of distinctive par threes. The surrounding pine forest gives the courses a sheltered character compared with exposed links, although the sandy ground and heathland vegetation maintain the traditional fast-running feel associated with the Surrey and Berkshire heaths. Both courses reward accurate positioning and thoughtful approaches rather than relying simply on length.
