Western Gailes Golf Club occupies a narrow ribbon of linksland between the Ayrshire railway and the Firth of Clyde. Founded in 1897, the course follows the coastline through natural dunes, with views across the water towards the Isle of Arran and an ever-present sense of the sea.

Firm fairways twist between dune ridges, while pot bunkers and partially hidden targets make the correct route difficult to judge. With little shelter available, the wind can transform both the playing line and choice of club from one day to the next. Understated, demanding and wonderfully natural, Western Gailes is a classic example of traditional west-coast links golf.
